Thankful for Twilight and all it’s done….

Dear Twilight,
It’s been a strange year to say the least. Although I often find myself focusing on the negative in my life, I really truly do have a lot for which I am thankful.

I am thankful that the first movie wasn’t so awful that it stopped me from later reading the books. Twilight was the first movie that I saw by myself, coincidentally over Thanksgiving weekend. The movie peaked my interest, so naturally I Wiki’d the plot of the books. LUCKILY, months later when I finally did read the series, I didn’t remember about the DEMON baby, cause well… who would start reading this series full well knowing there’s a DEMON baby involved?

I am thankful that after reading the series and seeing the movie again (appreciated it much more after having read the books), that I turned to the internet and stumbled across Letters To Twilight. If it was not for that faithful night, on 3/16/09 (YES, that’s the date I first found LTT and commented), when I read the aptly titled post: I’m gonna be nice today. UC and MOON articulated the random thoughts swirling around my head about the movies, the books, and the actors. It was kismet and I knew it.

Flash forward to present time and I can claim both UC and MOON as my real life friends (although I haven’t met Moonie yet). I’ve met several people from the fandom in person and have forged incredible friendships – we’ve even traveled together to tour the Pacific Northwest! I really don’t know what I would have done without these friends this year. I’ve also been fortunate to have met some hilarious and generous friends who regularly send me “Cullen smiles” and cards in the mail or fly in from Chili to visit! For some of my friends, I’ve only been able to keep an email/chat/phone relationship, but I know they care deeply about me and the feeling is mutual.
It’s amazing that at 29 years old, I’ve made so many remarkable friends in such a short period of time. These fantastic women have been my crutch when I could barely get through each day. I cannot adequately express how much they mean to me, how much I needed them, and how I will be forever grateful for their friendship.

So Twilight, I got really heavy there, especially since I’m writing to something that isn’t tangible, but I am thankful. Thankful that Stephenie Meyer decided to write down her dream and everything that has happened since.

Going broke for new moon,
Brooke

We love you Brookie! XO

Twilight Virgins say the darndest things

107-year-old-virgin-lrgDear Twilight sluts,

I love virgins. I get such a big kick out of people who have just or are currently experiencing their ‘first time.’ The way they talk; the way they’re all starry-eyed; the way they’re not jaded by the experience but still have hope for the purity & innocence of it- I just can’t get enough. It’s probably because it’s hard to remember when I lost my virginity- it seems to long ago.

I’ve been blessed to hold many a friend’s hand through the experience of losing her virginity. Of course I’m talking about losing her Twilight virginity. What did you think I meant? I introduced you to my friends UrbanGirl, ItalianGirl, Tex & PreggersPants back on this post [go, it’s brill] and I really thought it was over. I thought everyone in my life I could convince to read the series had done so. Turns out, Netta my cousin decided to hop on board and give her flower to Edward Cullen himself.

I really do love the innocence of a first time Twilight reader.  They don’t know the things we know- they may not know that Midnight Sun exists & probably aren’t yet pissed off at Stephenie for not finishing it. They probably have only seen the movie once or twice & haven’t yet realized, “This movie really kinda blows apart from Robert Pattinson & Buttcrack Santa.” They think they’re alone- oblivious to the MILLIONS of affected women out there. They call their other virgin friends and admit sheepishly,”I think I’m in love with a vampire,” not realizing the number of women throughout the world exclaiming, “That’s Normal!” And my favorite: They still refer to the actors & characters by their full names instead of Nik, KStew, Jack, Ash, Rob, etc. I recently received this e-mail from my cousin Netta:

Don’t tell anyone, but my friend Gretchen had a dream about kissing Edward Cullen.

First of all, sorry Gretchen, I just let your secret slip. But don’t worry. It’s only on my little blog. Secondly, thanks, Netta, for clarifying that it’s Edward Cullen she’s interested in kissing. At first I thought you meant Edward Scissorhands.

I want to rekindle that fire you once had for the series. I know it’s dwindling- don’t try to deny it. You’re over seeing pictures of Rob on the Remember Me set. You’re counting down the days until New Moon (126) and you wish that Stephenie would just write another damn book already! Today I have a gift for you in the form of texts I’ve compiled from my friends & family. [I’ve of course left you some necessary UC thoughts in brackets] After the jump, Read, recall & reminisce your first time…. Continue reading

Breakin’ all the rules – My First Time

Every ticket comes with a free pair of earplugs

Every ticket comes with a free pair of earplugs

Dear LTT folks-

When I first saw Twilight in the movie theaters, it was the Saturday (22nd) after it came out. I was trying to wait till I went home for Thanksgiving so I could beg my mom and cousin (lilcrazycow) to go with me. But I woke up that morning and couldn’t take it anymore, all I could think about was Twilight all day, every day. So I gave in and went by myself. This was before I knew about a million Twilight fans and my only other Twilight contact in LA was my coworker who first lent me the book. I showed up at the earliest screening expecting to sit in an empty theater by myself and have my personal Twilight moment.

Nope, WRONG! I was packed in with all the Twi-hards and the Twi-moms and everyone they dragged along. I knew the second the lights dimmed and people started screaming at every little thing: the title logo, the first time Bella was on screen, the first time the Cullens walk in, heck when ANY character walked in they screamed, I knew this thing called Twilight was something big.

I’m not gonna lie, the beginning was rocky for me… the dialogue seemed a bit flat, Kristen was boring to me, it felt rushed and it was getting awkward but then THIS happened…

and I knew that I would forever love this movie saga… however cheesy, and cheap it looked. I couldn’t resist Edward’s shit-eating grin or those ray bans, or how perfectly the song worked at that moment, or how I felt like I totally wanted to be Bella. Then he delivers the line “…breaking all the rules now anyway… since I’m going to hell…” and I was sold. I had broken all the rules of being a hip 20 something, I liked Twilight, I was about to start a blog about it and I didn’t care I was “going to hell” so might as well enjoy it.

And here we are now 4 months after the movie was released, a week after the DVD and now 8 months out from the next movie and I can’t help but think, what will that first time be like? What scene will be the one to grab me like this one did?

Only time will tell.

XO-
Themoonisdown

PS what was your first time (twilight screening*) like? What was the scene that hooked you for life?

*yea like how i had to qualify that?! i KNOW you people too well!!

Stuff guys say about Twilight – Mutemath & Buttcrack Santa

Bringing good music to the twi-masses

Bringing good music to the twi-masses

Dear MuteMath –

Your music is converting men to Twilight… well maybe not converting them but at least making them ask questions and spread the LTT/LTR love! Your song “Spotlight” is part of one of my favorite scenes in the movie. You know the part where Edward and Bella arrive at school and Angela says “Oh My God!” and boom! CUE MUSIC!? Yup, that’s it. Seriously, one of my favorite moments that I’m going to be writing about in the future… Breakin’ All the Rules! Below you’ll find a convo I had with a guy friend who will be called “mutemathlover*” in this post who found out I co-wrote this blog by accident but then sent it along to his boss/admin (what a good guy!) who is into Twilight and apparently very cool… well you’ll see… 😉

We love your music!
Themoonisdown

twilightsoundtrackmutemathlover: the spotlight remix is terrible but Clockwork and earlylight are good
mutemathlover: its so weird they ended up on the twilight soundtrack
themoonisdown: mutemath is like one of the authors FAVORITE bands, so not terribly surprised they were on there. and they got a big push from the movie
mutemathlover: well, they are my fav. so….i guess I should see the movie
mutemathlover: have you seen them live?
themoonisdown: yes! and you should see the movie but you need to see it with someone who KNOWS the books
mutemathlover: everyone who has read the books has seen it already. LADYBOSSFRIEND* is reading the incomplete book right now i forget what its called?
themoonisdown: midnight sun!!
mutemathlover:
ah, yea
themoonisdown
: whos LADYBOSSFRIEND?
mutemathlover:

themoonisdown: cause midnight sun is like in my top 2 of the saga even thought it’s not complete.  so good, send her to our sites!
mutemathlover: i did, she loves it. she shit out her lunch laughing over buttcrack santa. I had no idea what she was talking about. she called me laughing. i was like “buttcrack santa????? LADYBOSSFRIEND, what the hell are you taking about?”

Dear Crazies-

In honor of UC’s post over at LTR honoring the crazies, I thought I’d put together a video tribute post to you all! I present some of my favorite YouTube Twilight related crazies, freak outs and general 2nd hand embarrassment.

Love you crazy freaks!

This Twi-mom takes the cake for either freakin craziest woman alive or so funny she’s come full circle and right back to crazy. Kudos!

Twilight- the Lost Script

Dear Twilight,

I must be really out of it here because I thought I had read/seen/heard everything related to you that was published in the last 2 years, but I totally missed this one. MSN did a hilarious post called “Twilight- the lost Script” back in November.  I captured the pictures and hilarious convo for my blog so that I can read it forever into eternity. It’s that good.

Love,

The rarest type of Unicorn

In continuing with our Unicorn series, we had a real-life friend submit her find. (By ‘real-life-friend’ we mean someone we’ve actually met opposed to become bff’s over the internet with. Cuz despite the fact that we spend all our time on here, we actually have real lives. We use our real lives to stalk Rob, but they are real…)

The Rarest Type of Unicorn of them all:

What is this unicorn I speak of? Well it’s not just your average Twilight reading male. No no. This male not only reads Twilight but he shares his love of it with other males and tries to convince them to read it as well! I know what you’re thinking- you thought this unicorn didn’t exist, that it was the sort of thing fantasies are made of. And I know what your next thought is, he must be gay. But he’s not! I know him personally, I’ve met his girlfriend, and aside from the occasional pink polo shirt, there isn’t anything that would make you question his sexuality.

I came to find out about this unicorn’s love for Twilight from one of the males that he tried to convince to read it. He was not convinced, and dare I say, appalled at the thought. In an interview with this gentleman he was quoted as saying, “It made me wonder what vibe I had given off that would make him think I would appreciate Twilight, let alone read it?!” I think we can all agree that this would be the reaction of most males. So for more information, I had to go to the source…

I sent a casual email to him saying, “so I hear you’re a twilight fan. Is that true?” His response went above and beyond anything I could have possibly imagined. I think that rather than paraphrasing it would be better for me to just give you the word for word:

“Hahah twilight is awesome! I read the book and watched the movie.  You probably think I am weird but I learned bellas lullaby on piano too hahaha.”

Really, what else can I say? I imagine that his response has left you as dumbfounded as I was. I feel privileged for uncovering such a rare gem, and I hope that you have enjoyed my discovery. This is my first contribution for letters to twilight. I wanted my first one to be something special, and I think it was. But just to put a little extra icing on the cake, the unicorn let me take his picture. Which isn’t surprising, because if you’re willing to talk to guys about it, you sure as hell know you’ll put it out there for girls 🙂

Peace. -JPo

(

Sorry girls, this Unicorn is taken 😦

Just a thought, wouldn’t it be heavenly if we got THIS Unicorn together with theMoonisDown’s guy friend who loves to talk Twilight? They could play Bella’s Lullaby on the piano while discussing Kristen Stewart’s facial espressions- with their moms!

Edward Cullen as a bunny

Dear cute bunnies acting out Twilight,

Thanks for making me laugh!

Bella the Bunny

(If this isn’t actually funny, I blame the 1/2 bottle of merlot I just consumed while reading Eclipse)

Love,

Fans still love Twilight

Dear Twilight,

Nope. We haven’t forgotten about you. We’ve been a little distracted by all the NReed/KStew lesbo talk and the Kellan Lutz “good boy from your youth group” stories, but we still love you.

While Rob is definitely out-shining you in the letter department, people do still write to YOU too.  See, I’ll prove it:

xo

twi-movie-companion1Dear People at Target,

I swear I am not crazy…and I am not a biatch (well maybe sometimes)! I just find it really annoying and hard not to use my vampire strength to rip your throats out for selling the last copy of the Twilight Movie companion you had in stock to a tween who still can’t possibly know or understand how Edward can make someone ‘jizz her pants,’ as he does me! I understand how you are not really in control of when you will get restocked again, but do you know how inconvenient it is for me to have to wait until tomorrow to hit up Barnes and Noble when you’re just 5 mins from my house?!!?? Anyway sorry for glaring at you (cashier girl) with my ‘onyx-colored’ eyes…I swear they’re not always this color. Next time please try and keep better stock…k?

Thanks,

krazykidd

P.S.

My apologies to my fiancee who thought he might have to restrain me when that bitchfaced tween wallked past me with a smirk on her smug little face in triumph…for a SECOND there I wished I was Jane so I could put her dumbass on check!! (only for a SECOND)

Dear Twilight,twi book covers

Who knew you were this addictive? I’m sure Stephenie Meyer’s publishers did.

From December 23, 2008 to January 2, 2009 I was completely engrossed in the Twilight Saga that I didn’t even notice Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, Boxing Day, New Year’s Eve or New Year’s Day! Honestly, there should be some sort of disclaimer on the back. Only took me 11 days to finish the series because “I had to know”. I thought I would be past my obsession once I finished all four books…now even it’s worse.

Now, I take random online quizzes about Twilight and their characters (so sad), and I cannot go to bed without hearing Bella’s lullaby. Also, (and this is hard for me to admit) I rub body shimmering lotion on my boyfriend so that he could sparkle like Edward. It’s safe to say I have a problem.

I will admit that I don’t obsess over the book more than I do over the movie. Watching the book come to life made me wish that this fantasy would never end! Every fibre of my being anticipates the release of the New Moon movie. In the meantime, I get my fix from fanmade videos and blogs (although I would prefer the official complete draft of Midnight Sun, hint hint Steph).

Twilight, all that’s left to say is this: “You’re like my own personal brand of heroin“.

Patiently trying to wait,

newtwilightlover (Shari)
