I saw New Moon and I LOVED it….

I know many of you haven’t seen the movie yet. GO GO GO GOOOOOOOO what are you waiting for!? Of course you know I’m writing about it today, but don’t worry- I’ll warn you before there are spoilers

NewMoonGoodieBags

Did someone bring YOU a goodie bag with knock-off Ray bans inside?

Dear New Moon,

A story to sum up the night: After remaining in our seats until the last credit rolled, singing along to every word of “Meet me on the Equinox,” occasionally letting out a yelp, a squee or an expletive and holding hands with friends and strangers around us, our group of (just) 18 gals ventured into the concession area of the theater continuing with our yelps, squees and expletives along the way. As we gathered around for a group photo in front of the Eclipse poster we decided what that moment needed was a group hug. Hugs were passed around, more squees were heard and then it hit us- just a hug will not suffice. What we needed was a New Moon huddle. So we gathered together, we all put our arms in the middle and on the count of 3 we raised our hands in the air and yelled: JORTS!

It’s 3:46am and I could go on and on about the movie I just saw. But it’s 3:46am and I really want to go to sleep, so I’ll just share a few thoughts. The first being that it’s amazing. So if you haven’t seen it yet, forget the bad reviews, forget any preconceived notions you have based on the badly made last movie (Twilight) and just go. Lower your expectations. Clear your mind of anything you hope to see and just go enjoy the great portrayal of a really great book.

I have a confession, though.  With all that talk I shoved down your throats about managing expectations and ACCEPTING IT NOW that the movie very well may suck, I still hung on to a few expectations myself. Thankfully, Chris Weitz reads my mind (and therefore may now have access to my body) and BROUGHT it with New Moon. After the jump here are a few of my expectations that were met ABOVE and BEYOND! *Spoiler Alert* (see ending for *end of spoiler alert*)

  • Placement of the Bon Iver song: I wasn’t sure where this one would end up. I was hoping for something pretty depressing. But putting it right before Edward leaves? Brilliant. Definitely sticks out in my mind. Bunny & Noreen give this move TWO Thumbs up
  • I wanted to feel loss: I wanted to remember what it was like the first time I read that part in New Moon. I wanted to cry. And I did. I felt sad. I felt loss. I felt Edward’s distance. I felt Bella’s pain.
  • I want the names of the months: I did. I wanted them so badly, but I was resigned that we were NOT going to get them. Because how can you do that in a movie? But it’s Chris Weitz, my future 2nd husband, and he made it happen. And adding in Lykke Li? OMG. I just fangirled all over again thinking about how awful and brilliant that part was. I hurt. I LITERALLY hurt.
  • I didn’t want to miss Rob: And I didn’t (neither did Moon) because this movie was all about the Tay-Tay show.
  • I didn’t want the Tay-Tay show to suck: And I was really worried. You can’t put too much faith in a kid who once starred in Shark Boy and spent the rest of his childhood weaning his dad off the “Super Size” at Micky D’s to carry a movie.  But he did it. I don’t know how. And we have a long time to explore it, but dannnggg, Taylor
  • I wanted Kristen to earn all that acting praise that often surrounds her: And she did. I am definitely on Team Kristen as Bella. She rocked it. And looked gorgeous while rocking it.
  • I wanted the chemistry between Jake & Bella to make me consider switching teams: And I did. I’m still considering it. They were adddddorrrrabbbllleee together. MUCH more than just brother & sister. He was so doting. She was so needing of his doting. She led him on. He wanted her bad, and every time they almost kissed I yelled, “DO IT” really loud in my head and whispered it quietly in Moon’s ear while squeezing her hand. That scene in her bedroom when she touches his abs!? AHH- let’s fangirl together in remembrance of that hottness. I wanted him to push her down on top of that purple comforter and say, “Let’s not wait 80 more days until I’m legal. Let’s do this NOW.”
  • I wanted to love Robward when he returned: And I did. I feel like I’ve seen the scene where he’s shirtless 1,000 times but RIGHT after she runs into him and they close those big doors behind them, THERE? THAT ROB? OMG. Hottest Rob I’ve seen next to the one I saw in person on Ellen this week. I died on the inside. And then I wanted to offer him a werther’s original when he was back in the forest in his full-on tweed.

*End of Spoiler Alert* It’s official- I completely know why Twilight sucked. Let me break it down. New Moon has the same actors as Twilight, but this time they’re good. New Moon has the same screen writer as Twilight but this time it’s good. New Moon had the same catering company as Twilight (oh wait, that doesn’t matter) It’s like that “one of these things is not like the other” show on Sesame Street. ONE thing is very different in this movie. ONE THING. And that thing is named Catherine Hardwicke. She is NO WHERE to be seen in this movie and as a result the movie is AMAAZZZZINGGGGGG.

So Chris Weitz, Marry Me:

  2. *spoilers* maybe i think

LOVED This movie but its soooo hard for me to wrap my head around it cause I was so exhausted. The second time around is always the best. Can’t wait till i watch it again then it will really sink in.

P.S. im switching to team taylor. . . . sorry robward

  4. In the theater that I went to, there was this guy sitting behind me and my friend. Ten minutes before the movie ended, his phone rang really loudly. As if that weren’t rude enough, he then proceeded to ANSWER his phone. This other guy got really mad and screamed (with probably 50% of the people in the theater under 13) “SHUT THAT S*** OFF, MOTHERF******!” It sounds bad, but it was HILARIOUS.

Btw, I LOVED the movie :) soooo much better than Twilight. It made me question my team Edward allegiances.

  5. **SPOILERS**

I did not cry when Bella screamed in her sleep until Charlie came in to her….he got me!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Edward, OME!!!!!!!!!!!!! He was SO much more relaxed in this movie than Twilight! Loved how he was looking tortured….

Taylor, WOW, the rain scene with Bella made me see him clearly as a young man and not a boy.

  6. Hahaha.
I lur-hurved it when B said it was gross to date a 109 Year Old.
    Giggle-fest.

I’m crawling out of under my reader-only rock to express my love for NM.

In my theatre, when Taycob removed his shirt to Dab Bella’s bloody head (heehee) somebody about 2 rows behind me made gagging noises. I threw popcorn. Lots of it. LIke $4.20 worth of popcorn.

I’m glad that movie Bella is more helpful with the whole building-a-death-trap idea. She pushes wheels around and throws hard inanimate objects. In the book I remember her sitting in the Rabz-inator and looking pale and confused. In my head.

    • That reminds me, was it just me that laughed in the garage scene where the camera turns and there’s just a pizza guy there? :’)

      • Hahaha, yes I cracked up; coz at first I was like WTF who is this… then I clicked and was thinking to myself “what a dumbass that was so obvious” and got angry shushes from people in my row.

  7. [...] but no, not yet. At press time I’ve only seen the movie once and I’m still reveling in Chris Weitz’ brilliancy. Plus I’m exhausted. Utterly exhausted. This week in LA with Moon was one of the best [...]

  8. Loved the “protein” comment by human Mike Newton! He had a couple funny lines in the movie and definitely showed that he he can act.

  9. ohhh lord, completely agree with every single thing you guys said- I should let you know that when I read most of your posts UC & Moon- I actually do that ‘squee’ thing because you get me and I get you and we get it. My real life friends don’t ever make me squee.

    *spoiler*

So I loveeeed the simultaneous Victoria/Clearwater/Bella going to the cliff with hand on stomach scene. Possibly the best scene in the film. And then the ‘please, for me’-’it’s the only way you’ll stay with me’. Ahhhh my heart felt some serious things right there.

I think this movie craaaaaps hard all over Hardwick and her bluetinted ideology of twilight. She seriously sucks ass compared to amazing wonderful godly Chris Weitz. He is a heaven-sent being into the twilight saga fandom. I’m actually hearing words along the grapevine that some idiotic so-called fans prefer Hardwick. WTF? Crazy ass.

Everything about this film was amazing- the preface, the gran, Edwards sexy killer grin, his joke about trusting vampires, Jasper’s wig, the break-up, his eyes scrunching from the pain he couldn’t show her, the months, lykke li’s ‘possibility’, the emails, the screams, the vombie-like state, frenemy jessica and her hilarious self absorbtion, jacob’s garage, the bikes, face punch, yorkie & newton, the other break up in the rain, the make up in bella’s room, her fist on jacob’s chest, the dream, bella’s hardcore punch, the muffins, bella being good with weird, hearing damage, the cliff, the jump, the almost kiss, the phone call, BRAZIL! (so thankful for that heartwrenching visual), the leavin forks, jacob’s plea to bella, volterra, the water fountain, heaven, the amazing kiss, jane’s pain, edward’s fight to save bella, bella’s shout to save Edward, the forgiveness, the vote, wolf jacob’s tears and last but by no means least, the epic propsal!

Everything! Except the gay vision of bells and ed running in the woods wearing their grandparents clothes!

  10. I also, must thank Baby Jesus for giving us The Weitz, jorts, ballsy Bella, (a little bit of) Ray-Ban Edward, Heaven on Earth (aka Taycob) and Badass CGI wolves and Badass Rachelle. AND Billy Burke once again every scene he was part of. AND the secret-lover look btwn Sam & Jake after he finds Bella.

Did anyone else almost die when Charlie called her ‘baby”? I cried extra tears.

And when Jake introduced Quil and he was like looking her up and down and said ‘I’m Quil Ateara’. HAHAHA. I cracked up b/c he is just too funny. He didn’t look like Quil, but Tyson sure as hell acted like him.

The only thing I really missed and was irritated by..was no “Bells, honey.” W.T.F.!!! C’mon Rosenberg, what’s the deal? There better be som of that action in Eclipse, that’s all I gotta say…

  11. Can’t say anything funnier (is that word?) than y’all have…but I have to say it:

    LOVED IT!

The colors and the costumes were so much classier (as we read they would be)…I was in AWE of the perfect coloring of the contrast between Bella’s skin and hair as she was about to jump off the cliff (is that a spoiler if you read the book???), so striking. And I have to say that Taylor is an AMAZING actor, he nailed it. Seriously considering becoming Team Jacob now and I want more wolf pack, they are too cute. Can’t wait to see them in Eclipse.

  12. Thanks so much unintendedchoice – your synopsis of New Moon is spot on! I loved the movie for so many of the same reasons. I agree that Chris Weitz did a fantastic job with the actors. I LOVE Kristen Stewart’s subtle expressions and Taylor Lautners warmth and Robpat’s Shakespeare. It is earnest and beautiful the way love is at that age. Maybe for that reason it brings out the worst in those critics who are already cynical about loss and love and hate the series for the wrong reasons, i.e. it is popular and has attractive stars in it. Too bad. This is a popular high-grossing movie which also happens to be a great film.

  13. Ohhh lord, I completely agree with every single thing you said- I should let you know that when I read most of your posts, UC & Moon, I actually do that ‘squee’ thing thats big in the US because you get me and I get you and we get it.

My real life friends don’t ever make me squee.

So I loveeeed the simultaneous ‘Victoria/Clearwater/Bella going to the cliff with hand on chest hole’ scene. Possibly the best scene in the film, simply because of Hearing Damage.

And then the ‘please, for me’ – ‘it’s the only way you’ll stay with me’. Ahhhh my heart felt things, big things, right there.

New Moon craaaaaps hard all over Hardwick and her bluetinted ideology of twilight. She seriously sucks ass compared to amazing, wonderful, godly Chris Weitz. He is a heaven-sent being into the twilight saga fandom. I’m actually hearing words along the grapevine that some idiotic so-called fans prefer Hardwick. WTF? Crazy shiz man.

Everything about this film was amazing-

the preface, the gran, Edward and the Volvo, Edwards sexy killer grin, his joke about trusting vampires, Jasper’s wig, Bon Iver and the photo, the break-up, Edward’s eyes scrunching from the pain he couldn’t show her, the months, oh God the months, Lykke Li’s ‘possibility’, the emails, the screams, the depression, frenemy jessica and her hilarious self absorbtion, jacob’s garage, the bikes, famous ladies man Charlie, face punch, the other break up in the rain, Edward i love you, the make up in bella’s room, her fist on jacob’s chest, Bella’s punch, bella being good with weird, hearing damage, the cliff, the jump, the almost kiss, the phone call,

Everything! Except the gay vision of bells and ed running in the woods wearing their grandparents clothes

    LOVE x

  14. I have very few complaints the movie was ridiculously amazing!!! But the one thing that disappointing me (I am a Team Jacob fanatic through and through) was I didn’t get to hear Jacob utter my favorite quote ever “Whose Afraid of the Big Bad Wolf” and also I kinda wanted to see him give her those candy hearts dumb little thing.
    Other than that fav parts:
Bella getting to touch Jake’s abs in her room (God my friend died a little on the inside while screaming with fangirly joy inside our heads)
Everything Aro….. Gawd for some reason I found him to be so amazing Charlie Sheen did a great job. They got down his romantic at heart perfectly. And Marcus was a little creeptstic in the background.
    Um Jessica’s rant was great
The Age game between Jake and Bella I was so happy they put that in.
All hail the mighty Jorts I think I imprinted five times in the theater lol
KStew was not quite as spastic which was great.
RPattz did fine no complaits or rave reviews either way
    Cliff diving was cool too.
Movie scene: “Like are you old enough to get into this movie?” M.Newton, “She’s buying my ticket.” J.Black lol great scene.
And finally I just genuinely loved the movie, yes some things weren’t perfect, and Jacob’s maybe you should go to the hospital I am gonna send you there line was slightly cheestastic, And Bella and Edward’s romp in Alice’s field vision made me laugh a little. I can’t complain after all they had the muffins, the age game, and countless other things that made my inner fangirl sigh and love Chris Weitz even more. And lastly when she tells Jacob it was never him I think I cried and I wanted to jump through the screen and give him a hug when he begged Bella to stay. Taylor Lautner did an awesome job at bringing Jacob to life he exceeded every one of my expectations.

    • wow that was bad not Charlie Sheen he is Michael Sheen I knew that I just made a mistake. Oh well he was awesome.

  15. [...] to see the movie a few more times before I can write a real review I’m happy with, and I know I love New Moon more than Twilight. Yet, I can already see some of the points these critics are [...]
